Located on the 4th floor of the landmark Inspire project at BKC, Mumbai, the design for the NDTV Mumbai’s studio and offices was conceptualized to focus on experiential, inclusive, and functional spaces which are open and transparent.
To reflect the young and enthusiastic members of the new office, the plan saw the introduction of forms, shapes, and colours different from a normal office – blurring boundaries while creating a spatial order of programs from entry to the innermost chamber along a ceremonial central axis.
The Design Brief for the NDTV Studio & Offices at Mumbai was dedicated to a simple yet singular concept – effective functionality through open and engaging spaces.
The clients wished to do away with the age-old notion of hierarchical barriers and partitions erected in office spaces under the pretext of privacy – they wished for a workspace that respected the Indian Ethos of the company, while being contemporary in its design.
The element of the curve, used in the walls as well as ceilings, created a sense of harmony and calmness within the design of the NDTV Studio & Offices. Highlighted with the element of light, these curved walls in solid and translucent materials across the office opened up the ceremonial axis welcomingly into each semi-public and private space, while providing a contemporary and elegant finish to the office space.
The NDTV Mumbai Studio & Offices was visualized with a neutral colour palette, modern office furniture, and curved wall elements, with see-through glass partitions to section out the private offices and studios. Indoor plants and seamless ceilings tied the entire office together.
The neutral, glossy tones of the central axis, studios, and private offices, along with well-designed ceilings across the floor space for NDTV Studio, was contrasted sharply with the use of bright colours, seamless exposed ceilings, and greenery through indoor plants for all the public spaces, bullpens, and eating spaces on the floor.
This impactful contrast created a different setting appropriate to each space – neutral and warm tones for meetings & recordings, cool and colourful elements to encourage discussion, participation, and round-the-clock work.
When the clients envisioned a corporate media office created as a statement of growth, modern approaches, and Indian Global at the heart of BKC within the Inspire project, PKDA’s design team brought home a seamless concept of connected yet exclusive spaces, tied together along a central axis that diminished systemic hierarchy and made the office collaborative and contemporary.
From the drawing board designs to the final development on site, the NDTV Studio & Offices saw the creation of a next-gen media office – spacious, inclusive, and efficient.
